Trenton's pitching staff is far and away the best in the minors -- and the numbers show it, too. So when the Defenders began their series with the Thunder Tuesday, no matter how hot the bats are, Trenton can cool them off quickly.
It will be interesting to see if the Defenders can break out even in one game against Trenton because the Thunder have had the Defenders' number.

Just doing a little math and the Defs look like they have big time roster problems. Their rosrer lists 13 position players, 2 of whom are DL'd (McMains & Requena) and 2 who apparently are unavailable due to injury (TI & Wald). This leaves 9 position players, all in use when the DH is being used.
This leads me to 3 questions;
1) Do the Giants care?
2) Do they have any healthy bodies in Az or elsewhere they can send here?
3) Why carry 13 pitchers instead of 12? An extra position player certainly seems logical.
I don't think the Giants would be happy if a pitcher had to play in the field during a game. Or is this just part of the endurance test minor leagues go through?
It seems the logic, if you will, is the Giants don't see Ishikawa and Wald's ailments to be too serious to lead to a roster move. Is that a smart move? I don't think so. There is a chance that Requena returns soon and that prevented any move being made.
As for your questions:
1) Yes, but I'm not sure how much.
2) Not unless EME is ready, which I don't expect for a while.
3) 13 pitchers was the decision based on the recent doubleheaders as well as with Hinshaw starting, he can't go more than five innings on a good day because of a pitch count while he builds arm strength. For that reason, I don't think we'll see a change for a while.
