This and that

Hondo...great seeing you at the Defenders' Beer Fest Saturday. For those of you who were there, it was a nice event that seemed to make a positive impression on those in the community that attended.

To answer Greg's questions from a previous post..

The EL will help a lot to push the Defenders out. Maybe the politically correct term is to pressure Lou DiBella to sell the team to a Richmond-area owner.

As for what happens to Dodd Stadium? Probably nothing until the city determines that its better off torn down so another business can go there. That is, of course, providing the city's leaders aren't delusional and think another team is coming in (maybe...maybe an indy league team, which would be really bad).

How the current credit mess plays into the sale of the Defs might be a consideration. That's why I wonder about how much "help" the EL gives Lou down the line. And that's another shotgun marriage (Lou and the EL) much like the Giants and the City of Norwich where everyone is staying together for the sake of the kids.
Was there any work being done in the bathrooms?
Short season ball vs indy ball vs no ball will be the choices we face in the done too distance future. That's a pretty big hole in the ground for some new business to fill in up there.

There won't be any financial help from the EL or Minor League Baseball because whomever buys the Defenders is going to come in with a well-padded wallet.

The bathrooms will be done for Opening Day, I've been told. The problem this year was the money for the repairs were held back until late in the game and the restrooms would have had to be closed for an extended period, so the decision was to wait until this offseason.

I don't think the argument will be short season vs. Indy vs. no ball. I think its no ball vs. what has to be done to get an Indy team.

They could always put a statue of Cutter in memorial of the team.

The budget move would be to buy the recently renamed Nashua Pride of the indy Can-Am league: the "American Defenders of New Hampshire."
This way they can keep Cutter and the uniforms....just kidding..sort of.
And we have that statue of Tater already in place as a memorial piece.

It would be nice to get a team through the Atlantic League here. They have a team in Bridgeport. Doubt it would happen though...

JUST A THOUGHT--A LITTLE CRAZY--BUT--A THOUGHT, ANYWAY.

THERE ARE HOCKEY TEAMS IN NORWICH.
NFA HAS A TEAM-THE SEAHAWKS YOUTH LEAGUE HAVE A LLLOOOTTTT OF TEAMS.

THE CRAZY PART---
PUT UP AN OUTDOOR RINK THAT YOU CAN PLAY GAMES ON AT DODD.

IF YOU HAVE EVER EXPERIENCES OUTDOOR HOCKEY--YOU'LL NEVER GO BACK TO INDOOR.

PLUS, IT WOULD BE A WAY TO INCREASE DODD'S REVENUE DURING THE WINTER MONTHS.

I TOLD YOU IT WAS A CRAZY IDEA.
